In the context of un dancing per ballare we are glad to present the first event of a public program that will unfold in parallel with the exhibition, which in turn should no longer be intended as the outcome of a process, but rather as a space in the making in which dialogues and reflections may become visible.
The participating artists Elaine Summers, Anna Halprin, Th. E. Wijdeveld, and Alvin Curran analyse the domestic space from a historical-critical angle as a place with a great potential for interdisciplinary artistic experimentation concerning the tension between private and public. Their works will dialogue with the videos The Man who had a Beautiful House by visual artist Jimmie Durham (Houston, 1940) and Dwelling Art by the art collective Casa a Mare (Luca Coclite, Giuseppe De Mattia e Claudio Musso).
The Man who had a Beautiful House is based on a writing by Julian Villasenhor and Jimmie Durham. It is set in the natural landscape of Mexico and it tells the story of an ideal dwelling immersed in a poetic scenery, where the walls of a hypothetical house are not physical but rather psychological ones. Dwelling art is a video interview that stems from the collaboration with Jan van der Donk, founder and director of Studio Montespecchio, specialised in rare books, 19th century magazines, avant-garde architecture, art, design, and photography. The short video has the theme of dwelling as its kernel and reconstructs the possible genealogical tree of the Casa a Mare project.
