KINETIK is a video art festival exploring landscapes in transformation, interrogating the realities of climate change and the relationship between humanity and the natural world. The project is aimed with particular care at children and young people, fostering meaningful dialogue with new generations about the fragility of our planet. Through the language of contemporary art, KINETIK seeks to turn looking into awareness, and awareness into action. The festival grows out of the urgent environmental shifts reshaping southern Italy, and the province of Lecce in particular: a sweeping loss of biodiversity, the advancing salinisation and desertification of the soil, and the accelerating erosion of the coastline. In this context, art becomes a catalyst for reflection and participation, a bridge between science, education and imagination, capable of engaging not only the youngest audiences but entire families and the wider local community. The programme is structured around individual screenings, each conceived as a point of departure for reflection and critical dialogue. Following each film, young viewers are invited to explore, discuss and exchange ideas in conversations led by studioconcreto and specialist scientists, tailored to a curious and youthful audience. In this way, the works become active instruments of discovery and environmental education, opening windows onto natural, social and imaginative worlds.
The programme features screenings by internationally acclaimed artists:
— The Anthropocene Comedy by Ezra Wube (19 March 2026)
— Forest Futures by Uriel Orlow (10 April 2026)
— Listening in the Dark by Maeve Brennan (17 April 2026)
Each work opens a space for dialogue, enabling younger audiences to grapple with the complexities of the Anthropocene, to witness the transformation of landscapes and to understand the connections between natural history, human behaviour and the future of the planet. The collaboration with the National Biodiversity Future Center deepens the encounter between art and science, providing concrete tools for awareness and engagement.
KINETIK is not simply a video art festival, it is an experiential and educational journey, an invitation to look, listen and reflect on landscapes in flux; to feel the responsibility that comes with inhabiting the world; and to imagine together the possible futures of a more sustainable, caring planet.
Project funded by NextGenerationEU and promoted by the MUR – Italian Ministry of University and Research, Italia Domani, the NBFC – National Biodiversity Future Center, and the CNR – National Research Council of Italy.
