The ephemeral sculpture Burning Sisters – Le Tre Moire, created through a long and inclusive process of dialogue between artists and participants, was realized within the project Focolare Domestico, which was launched with the residency-workshop led by Chiara Camoni and the Centro di Sperimentazione, of which she is a co-founder. In Chiara Camoni’s work, a versatile artist whose research is rooted in the use of natural materials reimagined through collective, authorial processes, the Sisters are sculptures that evoke both an ancestral past and an immediate present, embodying a subversive and fantastical archaeology—an alternative History running parallel to the one built upon “indelible traces” (Lonzi). Assembled from plant-based materials and destined for burning, the sculpture Burning Sisters – The Three Moirai subsequently gave rise to a video work that was featured in the exhibition documenting the workshops, set up in the spaces of the Fondazione Lac o Le Mon.
The Focolare Domestico project involved a broad array of activities open to the public, including artist residencies, workshops, community programs, and seminars. Drawing on anthropological, mytho-religious, and artistic themes, the project explored rituals related to food with contributions from Chiara Camoni, Maria Diana, Ruan Grupa/Gud Skul, Juan Sandoval, Edizioni Brigantino (Valentina Lucchetti & Canedicoda), and Andrea Vitti.
The first step of the project focused on the material restoration and reactivation of the monumental cucina economica (wood-burning kitchen stove) on the ground floor of the Fondazione Lac o Le Mon, providing an opportunity to retrace the traditions and products of peasant food culture through exchanges with experts from Salento Km0. Reactivating the cucina economica, thus making it possible to prepare food using wood from pruned trees on the foundation’s grounds, represented a further step toward complete sustainability on-site, already well underway thanks to a solar panel system, a century-old hand-dug artesian well, and a phytoremediation system that makes the Fondazione self-sufficient from public electric, water, and sewage networks. This setting, therefore, offers, both from an experiential and practical perspective, a tangible example of a communal way of life, where awareness of limited resources becomes a pedagogical element of shared and creative cohesion.
The Focolare Domestico project, winner of the Creative Living Lab V edition grant, was realized by Fondazione Lac o Le Mon in collaboration with ECCOM, Salento KM0, and Associazione Zero al Cubo studioconcreto.
